Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how ClickBrown (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects the personal information you provide when using this website (clickbrown.co.nz and clickbrown.com) or engaging us for services. We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

1. Who we are

ClickBrown is a Shopify operations and automation consultancy based in Christchurch, New Zealand, operated by Varun as a sole trader.

2. Information we collect

We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it. This may include:

  • Contact information — name, email address, business name, phone number — when you fill in our contact form, book a discovery call, or email us directly.
  • Newsletter subscription data — email address — when you subscribe to receive blog updates.
  • Engagement information — information you share during a paid engagement, including credentials, store data, and integration access where required for the work.
  • Technical information — IP address, browser type, pages visited, referrer URL, and timestamps. Collected automatically by our web server and analytics tools.
  • Cookies — small files stored on your device to help the site function correctly and (where applicable) for analytics. See section 7.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your inquiries and provide the services you’ve requested
  • Send newsletter content if you’ve subscribed (you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • Operate and improve the website
  • Meet legal and tax obligations
  • Protect against fraud or abuse

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

4. Sharing with third parties, subcontractors, and tools

We share your information only with service providers and collaborators necessary to deliver our services. These currently include:

  • Hosting and infrastructure — our web hosting provider stores the website’s data, including form submissions.
  • Email services — used to send and receive correspondence and the newsletter.
  • Analytics — basic, privacy-respecting analytics where applicable.
  • Subcontractors and external collaborators — we may engage qualified subcontractors or collaborators to help deliver work, particularly during periods of high demand. Any such party is bound by confidentiality obligations equivalent to ours.
  • Development and operational tools — we use a range of third-party tools to deliver work, including code editors (which may incorporate AI-assisted features), version-control platforms, deployment services, project management systems, and design tools. These tools may process information about your project under their own terms of service and privacy policies. We do not control how those providers handle data shared with them. We will not knowingly upload your private production credentials, customer personal data, or other materially sensitive information to any third-party tool without your consent.
  • During engagement work — third-party platforms you have authorised us to access (e.g., Shopify, Cin7 Omni, marketplace tools) handle data under their own privacy policies.

Some of these providers may store data overseas. By using the site or engaging us, you consent to this transfer where required. Further detail on subcontracting and third-party tools is set out in our Terms & Conditions, section 9.

5. How long we keep your information

We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, to comply with legal obligations, or to resolve disputes. Contact form data is typically kept for up to 24 months unless you’ve become a client, in which case engagement-related data is retained for up to 7 years for tax and accounting purposes.

6. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, and disclosure. However, no system on the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Cookies

This site uses cookies for essential functionality (e.g., remembering your preferences) and may use analytics cookies to understand how visitors use the site. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work correctly without them.

8. Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020

You have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information (subject to our legal and tax obligations)
  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time
  • Make a privacy complaint to us in the first instance, or to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz) if unresolved

To exercise these rights, email varun@clickbrown.co.nz.

9. Children

This website is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
