Production work

Systems I built. Still running.

These are systems I've built and maintain at Army & Outdoors as their in-house Shopify Plus engineer — 6.5 years of multi-store production work across NZ, AU, US, and EU. Plus one entry from BrandSHD, my own Shopify store.

These aren't ClickBrown client engagements — they're real production work, shown here as evidence of what I can build for your store.

Trust badges at checkout ? using the Plus checkout where the doubt actually hits

Most stores put trust badges on product pages ? but the doubt that loses the sale peaks at checkout, with the card in hand. Built a Shopify Plus Checkout UI Extension that places three deliberately-chosen trust signals right under the order summary: 60-day returns (risk reversal), free shipping (transparent terms + AOV nudge), 125,000+ customers (social proof).

Checkout free-gift extension ? a Plus-only AOV lever, with the edge cases handled

Free gift over $125 at checkout, with a progress bar nudging the cart toward the threshold. Built as a Preact Shopify Checkout UI Extension (Plus-only). The real engineering is the guards: gift-card prevention, duplicate-gift prevention, cart-edit resilience. Built by me, iterated with Claude ? and I'm honest about both that and the fact I won't quote an AOV number I can't cleanly attribute.

Google Drive folder creator ? batch SKU folders so the product team stops doing it by hand

Product images live in Google Drive folders named by SKU. Creating those folders one at a time was eating the product team's day. Built an internal tool: enter a prefix, let it auto-detect the highest existing number, say how many you want ? it batch-creates hundreds of correctly-numbered folders in one click.

4 stores Image SEO + metafields stay consistent automatically
Built for Army & Outdoors

Image SEO + metafield sync across 4 stores ? killing the “do it four times” tax

Renaming product images to SEO standards across 4 stores (8-10 images each) and keeping metafields consistent between regions was eating the product manager's time. Built two webhook-driven systems: auto SEO image filenames on all stores, and metafield sync from NZ to AU/US/EU. Upload once, correct everywhere.

4 tiers Auto-escalating unsold tags (30 / 60 / 120 / 180 days)
Built for Army & Outdoors

Slow-seller detection ? escalating “unsold” tags so marketing can act on stale stock

No systematic way to see which products weren't selling. Built a webhook + daily job that tracks every sale and applies escalating Shopify tags ? unsold_30days, _60days, _120days, _180days ? so the marketing team can filter dead stock in seconds and target it deliberately.

71 Orders via 1 Shopify Collective retailer ? NZD $9,254
Built for BrandSHD

BrandSHD on OnBuy UK + Shopify Collective ? honest channel economics

Two expansion channels tested on my own Shopify store. OnBuy UK: tried it, stopped it (margins too thin on dropshipped perfume). Shopify Collective as supplier: active, NZD $9,254 from one retailer, 71 orders.

Google Merchant Center ? 9,400+ products approved, 5 years sustained

Most Shopify stores have 20-40% of their catalogue silently disapproved by Google Merchant Center. AAO maintains 99.9% approval rate across 9.4K products ? actively managed for 5+ years.

Days AI-directed build vs weeks of hand-coding ? honest about how
Built for ClickBrown ? Own infrastructure

The MCP server behind this site ? built with AI tooling, honestly

I needed a way for Claude to manage my WordPress site directly ? building and updating it by hand would have taken weeks I didn't have. So instead of hand-coding it, I had Claude design and build a custom MCP server, debugged it collaboratively, and connected it. This site you're reading was largely built through that connection. This is how I actually work in 2026.

Site switcher ? sending visitors to their local store without losing the product they’re viewing

US visitors landing on the NZ site. NZ visitors on the AU site. Wrong currency, wrong shipping, lost sales. Built a geo-detection popup that offers a redirect to the local store ? and crucially, if they're on a product page, it sends them to the SAME product on the local store, not the homepage. Plus a header switcher to change region from any page.
